This is an oil painting I copied from a pastel by Harley Brown entitled, "Dog Rib Chief".
Brown says:" I met this man in the barren wastes of Canada's Northwest Territories, near Great Slave Lake. Yet he couldn't be happier with his lot as he sat in his very sparse (one-room) cabin. He donned his ceremonial bonnet and sat for me. A solitary bulb lit one side of his face, cool north ligh from a window lit the other. All I did was sit there and "duplicate" what was before me. To me ther is nothing on earth to match the structure and beauty of the human face. "
